The results of the fight against illegal trafficking of psychotropic substances and drugs are summarized by the Working Group of the State Commission on the fight against Drugs and Illegal Trafficking of Narcotic means.
Thus, during the six months of the current year, law enforcement agencies revealed 1697 cases of drug trafficking, 470 of which were illegal for the purpose of selling, storing, transporting, selling or selling drugs, psychotropic substances or precursors, 1094 illegally acquired and stored drugs, psychotropic substances, and their precursors without the purpose of sale, 103 illegal cultivation of narcotic plants, and 30 others.
On discovered 730 kg 723,566 grams of different types of drugs were confiscated from the illegal turnover.
The confiscated drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors were seized at 428 kg 564,736 g (58.6%), 117 kg of 174.74 grams of opium (16%), 146 kg of 486.19 grams of heroin (20.1%) and 2 kg 480.2 grams of hashish (0.4%), 35 kg 134.7 grams (4.8%) others, 883 grams of psychotropic substances (0.1%) and 1545 pills.
1309 people were involved in criminal responsibility, of which 3 were under 18, 112 were aged 18-25, 181 were under 26-29, 1013 were over 30, including 15 workers, 2 officials and 1167 were unemployed, 513 were persons committing repeated crimes, 1289 were men, 20 were women, and 17 were foreigners. Overall, more than 6 kg of drugs and psychotropic substances were confiscated.
According to the data for the 31.12.2016 of the State Drug Center of the Ministry of Health, 29.448 people were registered at the Center, of which 24056 were dispensaries and 5392 were in preventive registration. Of them, there are 5 people under the age of 18, 612 are women, 183 are Toxicants and 20576 (459 women) are injecting drug users. 2142 new users were registered in 2016 and 1,249 were officially removed from the registration.
According to the Ministry of Health's AIDS Center for the first six months of 2017, the number of newly HIV infected persons in Azerbaijan was 224, of which 219 (97.7%) were citizens of Azerbaijan, 5 (2, 3%) are foreigners. In general, 6409 HIV-infected people were registered in the Republican AIDS Center since the discovery of the HIV infection in Azerbaijan in 1987 until July 1, 2017. 6198 (96.7%) of them are citizens of Azerbaijan, 211 (3.3%) are foreigners, 4722 (73.7%) of people infected with HIV were men and 1687 (26.3%) are women.
Of the 6409 people infected with HIV, the 3001 (46.8%) were infected through injecting drugs, the 2210 (73.6%) of them were registered in the dispensary. As of 01.07.2017, the total number of HIV-positive patients attending ART was 3756, of whom 1711 were HIV-positive.
Of the 218 patients attending ART for the first six months of the current year, 57 persons were identified as INI.
