On November 10, a meeting was held in the “Khazri” Recreation and Health Center at the level of experts on Confidence Building Measures for Combating Drug Abuse within the framework of the "Heart of Asia" Istanbul processes on Regional Security and Cooperation for Safe and Stable Afghanistan. The conference was organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

   The experts of member states (under the Confidence Building Measures for Combating Drug Abuse within the framework of the "Heart of Asia" Istanbul processes), the Head of the Main Drug Enforcement Department of the Ministry of  Internal Affairs, Mr. Hazi Aslanov,  the Head of the State Commission’s Working Group Mr. Faghan Shahverdiyev, and the representatives of the Ministry of  Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health, the State Customs Committee, the State Border Service, the State Security Service and other relevant bodies’ employees were present at the session.

   According to the agenda of the event, the representatives of the relevant state agencies and the representative of the State Commission on Fight against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking of Drugs, within the framework of the presentation, provided information on the fight against drug addiction and illicit drug trafficking in the country in 2016 and 2017, as well as awareness-raising, legal, social and medical measures in this area.

   In addition, forum participants discussed improvements, existing barriers and future collaboration opportunities in relation with the implementation of the Action Plan on confidence-building measures to strengthen the fight against drug addiction among member states within the "Istanbul Process".
