Results of the fight against illicit trafficking of drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors in the country for the first six months of 2019 were summarized by the permanent Working Group of the State Commission on Combating Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking.

  So, for 6 months of the current year law enforcement bodies revealed 2553 facts, of which 707 are sale, 1675 storage, 141 illegal cultivation of drugs and 30 others.  According to the revealed facts, various types of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances weighing 1 ton 650 kg 749,322 grams as well as 25 thousand 701 units of cannabis were removed from illegal circulation. In addition, 330 kg 374,986 grams of precursors and 12 kg 714 grams of toxic substances were seized from illegal turnover.

  The confiscated drugs and psychotropic substances  consisted of 510 kg 846,029 grams of marijuana (30.9%), 224 kg 864,575 grams opium (13.6%), 763 kg 160,068 grams heroin (46.23%), 14 kg 071,106 grams of hashish ,(0,8 %), 4 kg 009,185 grams of cocaine (0.2%), 80 kg 130,229 grams of psychotropic substances (4.8%), 53 kg 668.13 grams (3.2%).

  73 tons 892 kg (150 thousand 201 units) of narcotic plants on 2273 hectares were destroyed by green mass with the participation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Ministry of Agriculture, State Border Service and other relevant agencies.

  1687 people were brought to criminal responsibility, 5 of them were 16-18 years old, 130 people were 18-25 years old,  263 people were 26-29 years old,1299 people were over 30years old.

  People who were responsible, 160 of them were workers, 2 were financially responsible, 1 was a secondary special student, 412 had committed crimes before, 5 are previously registered, 1141 was not working, 1636 were men, 38 were women,  56 of them were foreign citizens. 40 foreigners were citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran, 5 - Georgia, 4 - Russia, 2 - Turkey, 2 - Ukraine, 2 - Pakistan, 1 - Brazil. A total of 585 kg 840,908 grams of drugs were seized from the above-mentioned foreign citizens.

  According to the Republican Narcology Center of the Ministry of Health for December 31, 2018, the Center registered 31,432 people, of which 26,346 were dispensaries, and 5086 were preventive registrations. Of these, 626 are women, 227 are toxicants, and 21,872 (501 women) are injecting drug users.

  During the first 6 months of 2019, 2557 people were examined for drug use and 1,276 were identified for drug use and they were properly registered.

   According to the AIDS Center of the Ministry of Health, 9.9% of HIV infections among Azerbaijani citizens in the first 6 months of 2019, totally  by 1992-01.07.2019 , 42.2% of infections happened as a result of injection drug use. Of the 7,762 HIV-infected individuals identified since 1988, 3222 patients were injection drug users, of which 2556 (79.3%) were registered in the dispensary.

  At the same time, it should be noted that there is a decline in the number of new cases of HIV addiction in the country. During the first 6 months of 2019, 34 people (9.9%) of 343 Azerbaijani citizens were injecting drug users.
