A meeting titiled "The role of the media in combating illicit trafficking in drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors" was held at the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan on August 19, 2021, with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Chairman of the State Commission on Combating Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking Ali Ahmadov .
The event discussed the work to be done by the media in the fight against illicit trafficking in drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors and drug addiction and the tasks ahead.
Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the State Commission on Combating Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking Ali Ahmadov noted that drug addiction and drug trafficking is one of the most serious and dangerous global problems facing modern society. The most important issue on the modern agenda of mankind as a whole is the organization of an effective fight against drug trafficking. He brought to the attention of the participants the need to raise the fight against drug addiction and drug trafficking in our country to the state level, to increase the efficiency of law enforcement agencies in the country and achieving positive results in the illicit trafficking of drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors and the need to further increase the effectiveness of awareness-raising activities using the opportunities of the media.
Bakhtiyar Sadigov - Deputy of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Editor-in-Chief of the Azerbaijan Newspaper, Rovshan Mammadov -Chairman of the Azerbaijan Television and Radio Broadcasting Closed Joint-Stock Company, Balakishi Gasimov- General Manager of the Public Television, Ahmad Ismayilov - Executive Director of the Media Development Agency, Ismat Sattarov -Chairman of the National Television and Radio Council, Mirshahin Agayev - Director General of the Real Analysis Information Center, and Mushfig Hatamov -Director of the Space Independent Television and Radio Company, supported the initiatives on awareness-raising activities against drug addiction using the opportunities of modern media, and spoke about the importance of mass media coverage of the undesirable consequences of drug addiction in the family and society.
As a result of the meeting, the study of international experience in the organization of anti-drug propaganda, preparation of social videos by the relevant state bodies and wide coverage by the mass media in order to organize awareness-raising among the citizens on the reception of drugs, psychotropic substances and related problems, making documentaries and subjects related to the harm of drug addiction and relevant recommendations and decisions were made on the preparation of author's writings and research expressing the essence of the problem, the organization of special programs with the involvement of specialists from relevant government agencies.
