During January-March of the current year, as a result of complex search operations carried out by law enforcement agencies in the fight against drug addiction and drug trafficking, a total of 2795 criminal cases were revealed. Of them, 1,010 were related to the illegal sale of drugs, 1,748 to the illegal acquisition and possession of drugs, 16 to the illegal cultivation of narcotic plants, and 21 to other crimes in this category.
According to the revealed facts, 1 ton 880 kg 475,692 grams of drugs and psychotropic substances was generally confiscated from illicit traficking and of that confiscated drugs and psychotropic substances 1 ton 081 kg 614,282 grams was heroin, 505 kg 478,298 grams was marijuana, 141 kg 094,393 grams was opium, 5 kg 039.161 grams was hashish, 198,940 grams was cocaine, 142 kg 797,821 grams was psychotropic substances, 4 kg 252,797 grams was other drugs. Also, 7286 methadone and 2524 hemp plants were seized during this specified period.
1732 people were prosecuted for drug trafficking. Of those prosecuted, 32 are foreign nationals.
15 of them were citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran, 8 of the Russian Federation, 5 of Turkey, 3 of Georgia and 1 of Ukraine. A total of 576 kg 277,504 grams of various drugs, 17 kg 956.92 grams of psychotropic substances and 1,125 grams of strong substances were seized from foreign citizens.
Law enforcement agencies revealed 55 facts related to the smuggling of drugs and psychotropic substances into the country, and according to these facts, 7286 tablets of various drugs, 22 kg 399.27 grams of psychotropic substances and 108 tablets, 2048 capsules with a total weight of 765 kg 540,334 grams were seized from the illicit traffic.
During the first 3 months of 2022, 1 ton 880 kg 474,692 grams of drugs seized from illicit trafficking, the total value of drugs and psychotropic substances is estimated at 69 million 778 thousand AZN (41 million US dollars).
During January-March of the current year, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan referred 18,526 people to the Republican Narcology Center of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan to identify all types of intoxication.
Of them, 612 out of 817 people who underwent a medical examination to determine drug use were identified as users and necessary measures were taken in this regard.
During January-March of the current year, the “802” hotline received 498 appeals from citizens, of which 59 were related to drug trafficking, 190 were related to drug addiction treatment, and 249 were related to other issues (repeated appeals, explaining the provisions of legislation, compulsory treatment procedures, etc.). 252 letters were sent to the relevant authorities to take appropriate measures on the mentioned appeals.
