Information on the results of the fight against drug addiction and drug trafficking in January-April 2022

   During January-April of the current year, as a result of complex search operations carried out by law enforcement agencies in the fight against drug addiction and drug trafficking, a total of 3961 criminal cases were revealed. Of these, 1,438 were related to the illegal sale of drugs, 2,449 were related to the illegal acquisition and possession of drugs, 40 were related to the illegal cultivation of narcotic plants, and 34 were related to other crimes in this category.

    According to the revealed facts, 2 tons 492 kg 318,738 grams of drugs and psychotropic substances confiscated from illicit trafficking, of which 1 ton 221 kg 912,132 grams was heroin, 608 kg 660,958 grams was marijuana, 155 kg 614,521 grams was opium, 5 kg 047.19 was hashish, 198,940 grams was cocaine, 496 kg 577,179 grams was psychotropic substances, 4 kg 860,817 grams was other drugs. Also, 7286 methadone and 16747 hemp plants were seized from illegal circulation during this period.

    2353 people were prosecuted for drug trafficking. Of those prosecuted, 36 are foreign citizens.

   17 of them were citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran, 9 of the Russian Federation, 6 of Turkey, 3 of Georgia and 1 of Ukraine. A total of 576 kg 717,042 different types of drugs, 325 kg 863.92 g of psychotropic substances and 1,125 g of strong substances were seized from foreign citizens.

Law enforcement agencies revealed 69 facts of smuggling drugs and psychotropic substances into the country, and according to these facts, 829 kg 399,122 grams, 7286 tablets of various drugs, 331 kg 750,628 grams of psychotropic substances and 108 pills, 2048 capsules were seized.

     The total value of 2 tons 492 kg 318,738 grams of drugs and psychotropic substances seized during the last 4 months of 2022 is estimated at 78 million AZN.

    During January-April of the current year, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan referred 25,632 people to the Republican Narcology Center of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan to identify all types of intoxication.

    Of them, 793 out of 1,095 people who underwent medical examinations to determine drug use were identified as users and necessary measures were taken in this regard.

   During the reporting period, the “802” hotline received 671 citizens' appeals, of which 75 were related to drug trafficking, 269 were related to drug addiction treatment, and 327 were related to other issues (repeated appeals, explanation of the provisions of the legislation, procedures for compulsory treatment, etc.). 347 letters were sent to the relevant authorities to take appropriate measures on the above-mentioned appeals.
